Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development

  • The State Government released a sum of N70million as the Counterpart Fund for repositioning Agriculture through partnership with foreign Countries.
  • The State Government procured a total of 17,517.30 metric tons of fertilizer at the cost of N882,762,400 which were sold to farmers at subsidized rates.
  • A sum of N714million was released for the procurement of 8,500 metric tones to complement fertilizer from the Federal Government for the year 2009.
  • 2,900,000 hybrid cocoa seedlings were distributed free to bonafide cocoa farmers in the 19 cocoa producing Local Government Councils of the State.
  • 350,000 cashew, 140,000 oil palm and 1,000,000 hybrid cocoa seedlings were produced and sold at highly subsidized prices.
  • A sum of N40m was released by the State Government to purchase cocoa chemicals and inputs for cocoa farmers at highly subsidized prices.
  • The State Government released the sum of N980,500 for the execution of projects at Rural Community Development Centre, Awe.
  • The State Government provided and established Apiaries, Honey pressers, protective clothing to about 500 Bee-Keepers across the State.
  • Training programmes were organized for over 1,000 Bee-Keepers in the State.
  • A sum of N1,125m was approved for the rehabilitation of 25 deep wells fitted with hand pumps across the State.
  • Six selected feeder roads were rehabilitated in Oluyole, Surulere, Oyo, Eruwa, Ogo-Oluwa and Ido Local Government Councils.
  • Oyo State was selected through a competitive submission to benefit from Rural Travels and Transport Project [RTTP] of Federal Government.
  • A sum of N45m was released for the purchase of maize in the pursuit of the Buffer stock that assisted on mopping up excess grains.

TRACTOR HIRING

  • The State Government approved the resuscitation of Tractor Hiring Unit with the release of fund for the purchase of 40 Mersey Fergusson Tractors.
  • A multi-site Farm Settlement had been established at Ido Local Government.
  • A sum of N33,697,073.85 was released to revive Poultry Investigation Centre, Fasola.
  • Beef Cattle Fattening Project, Fashola was resuscitated with the release of N12,757,392.50.
  • The State Government released a total of N26,930,750 for the purchase of drugs, equipment, vehicles, chemicals and leather materials to prevent outbreak of animal diseases.
  •  A sum of N1,995,000 was released for the establishment of broodstock bank to be sold to the farmers at subsidized rate,
  • A sum of N19,523,500 was released for School Fisheries Agricultural Programme and expansion of fish marketing unit.
  • The State Government established 20 ha of plantation of both Teak and Comelina at Apete end of Eleyele Plantation.
  • The State Government released a total sum of N76.382 million as arrears of Counterpart Fund for 2004 and 2005 as well as commitment Fund for FADAMA III Project.
  • A total of 69 Officers of the Ministry benefited from different Local trainings and workshops organized by different Institutions in Ghana.

OYO STATE AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME [OYSADEP]

  • Akufo water scheme structure was demolished and reconstructed.
  • The State Government released a sum of N45million for continuation of the construction of Alabata/Ijaiye dam in Akinyele LGA.
  • N35m has been released out of the N70m earmarked for the construction of a new dam at Ajinapa in Oriire LG.
  • A total of 49kms of feeder roads were rehabilitated in the State.
  • The construction of a new office complex at the Liaison Office Ibadan at a cost of N95m is on-going.
