T he importance of ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in an emerging information society is recognized by Oyo State Government under the able leadership of the Governor, His Excellency, Otunba (Dr) Christopher Adebayo
Alao-Akala, JP, psc, and is stressed in the diverse trainings (both local and international) of the Civil Servants in the State.
The Governor realized the fact that health is wealth, information is life, education is acquisition of knowledge, and people perish because of lack of knowledge. A man who fails to learn has ceased to be human even when he is still alive.
The Civil Servants in Oyo State are equipped through several organized, purposeful, job-related, motivational and exposure trainings which would allay their fears of being laid off and put them in a better position even to stand among their counterparts anywhere in the world. Rich knowledge acquired could be considered a fundamental social right and a treasure of humanity and this is what Oyo State Government under the Alao-Akala Administration has laudably been embarking on since inception.
Train-the-trainer programme on Information and Communication Technology has been divided into two for fifty (50) Computer Engineers and thirty (30) Information Officers making it a total number of eighty (80) civil servants drawn from all the ministries, departments and agencies. This training will not be limited to these two cadres of officers alone. Others will still benefit.
The training materials provided will help the trainees a lot to keep abreast with the skills acquired during the training, assisting in retaining and improving their memories. The training materials were developed for trainees and are intended to give a concise overview of the latest developments in this field.
Apart from these, the State has also benefitted from the following:
- 33 VSATs and Internet Wireless Routers for the 33 local governments in Oyo State donated by JT Canada Nigeria;
- Internet facilities both Wireless and Local Area Network (LAN) installed in all ministries and agencies in the government secretariat;
- Official website for Oyo State www.oyostate.gov.ng;
- Laptops and desktops distributed to Cabinet members and Information officers in the ministries and parastatals;
- Computer-for-all-Nigeria-Initiative (CANi) adopted by Oyo State Government in which many civil servants can now boast of ownership of a computer (laptop/desktop).
