WOMEN AFFAIRS, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND SOCIAL WELFARE
- The State Government released a sum of N1.5m for Poverty Alleviation among young and unemployed school leavers.
- 250 Women and 4 Community Based Organizations received short term Training Programme on vocational skills.
- Fencing of Olubunmi Oladokun Women Development Centre, Idere, was completed.
- The State Government approved and released a sum of N1.5m to Non-Governmental Organizations in the State.
- Release of N58m by the State Government to start preliminary work/construction on the State's Centre for Women Development.
- Vocational Training was organized for 250 Trainees at Oyo, Ibadan/Ibarapa, Ogbomoso and Saki Zones in the State.
- 300 women benefited in Cassava Utilization workshop.
- Government released a sum of N4m as Widowhood Loan Support Scheme for 200 Women from 33 Local Government Areas in the State.
- Procurement of 14 seater-bus, Working tools, cooking materials and other urgent needs of Nigeria Training Centre for the Blind, Ogbomoso.
- Approval of monthly allowance to the tune of N20,000.00 to Mr. Akinkunmi Taiwo, the National Flag designer for his up keep N480,000 was released on the whole.
- A total sum of N5.4million was released for the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration held on January, 2008 & 2009 by the State Government.
- Perimeter block wall fence of Juvenile Remand Home, Ijokodo was done by the State Government.
- 40 abandoned children after thorough social investigation were given out on adoption to registered adopters via legal procedures.
- A sum N460,050 was released for the conduct of the Areas & State Council's elections of the Nigerian Legion.
- Veteran walk for International Day of Peace was held on 21st September, 2008 and a sum of N780,000.00 was released for the programme.
- A sum of N290,000.00 was approved as financial assistance to 3 members of Staff of the Ministry i.e. Messrs Waidi Oyebanji, A.A. Abimbola, Mrs. R. Jayeoba.
- A sum of N368,000 was donated to mark the Nigerian Association for Social Workers' Day.
- A sum of N1.8million was released for International Women's Day for the last two years.
- About 1,500 families were reconciled and the positive effects on the affected children are reflected in their maintenance and well being.
- Training/skills acquisition of over 300 physically challenged persons at the Rehabilitation Centre for the Disabled, Moniya and Nigeria Centre for the Blind, Ogbomoso.
- Procurement of equipment amounting to N5m for Nigerian Blind Centre, Ogbomoso and sinking of a borehole at the Centre.
- Donation of N300,000 to 6 children at the Juvenile Remand Home, Ijokodo as scholarship award.
- A subvention of N100,000 is released monthly to the Nigerian legion.
- Release of N5m every year for the feeding of the children in Social Welfare Homes.
- Production/provision of 15 artificial limbs for the amputees in Social Welfare Institutions.
- Graduation and Donation of Equipment to graduands of 12th set of trainees of Rehabilitation Centre, Moniya, by the State Government.
- Rehabilitation and Repatriation of 18 Destitutes from Lagos State to their different Homes and Local Government Councils in the State.
- Establishment of State Children Parliament consisting 40 members and the release of N300,000 annually for its running cost.
- Approval of child Rights Law.
- Campaign against child trafficking in the 11 endemic Local Government Areas of the State; 10 children victims have been reintegrated with their families.
- 3,000 Women of reproductive age and Nutrition Officers were trained on reduction of infant mortality through improved nutrition in the 3 Senatorial Districts.
- Skills Acquisition Programme for 50 trainees in bead making, soap making, tie and dye for guidance and care givers of orphans and vulnerable children and people living with HIV/AIDS.
- 1,000 Self-help projects had been completed in 33 Local Governments Areas in the State, Grant of N7m was released for disbursement to the Local Government Chairmen for the execution of the projects.
- Twenty-two [22] vigilante groups were launched in various Local Government Areas throughout the State to complement Government effort on the security of lives and property.
- N400,000.00 was released for the resuscitation of Radio/TV programme (Agbajo-Owo) in collaboration with the Oyo State Broadcasting Corporation as a public enlightenment strategy on self-help projects in the State.
- 100 members of Staff benefitted from training programmes at the Local, National and International levels. A total sum of N11.2m was released for this purpose.
- Some offices were furnished and office equipment including 6 generators, 7 computers, printers and other accessories were purchased to enhance productivity. A total sum of N2,311,200.00 was released for this purpose.
