Just like all attractive and developed cities of the world, the level of Government investment in uplifting the environment is in no small toll. Needless to point out that, the socio-economic, political and societal gains of upgrading the environment in Oyo State could best be experienced than even written about. The primary goal of any City Beautification is the vigorous and continuous battle against the menace posed by the ever increasing deplorable state of the state’s environment.
However, it is believed that Medians, Roundabouts, Sidewalks and countless open spaces in the state have long been denied their rightful place in modern urban planning and infrastructure worthy of a pacesetter state. We then ask ourselves "what major factor(s) makes one state of the federation more business/tourist viable more than another?” and then wonder if a touch of aesthetic value on the environment might be one of such factors.
THE PROJECT CONCEPT
The project concept is targeted at using social development mechanisms such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and revenue drive in achieving quicker, yet cost effective developmental growth in the society. It also compliments the effort of the Ministry of Environment and its consultant in giving Oyo State a new look at no cost to the State Government.
EFFECT OF THE BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT ON THE ENVIRONMENT
No doubt from the pictorial analysis shown in this proposal that; areas that have constituted an environmental nuisance on account of filth and offensive sight due to long abandonment would be transformed to more befitting city spots.
Apart from the ecological benefits such as cleaner and safer environment, aesthetics and prevention of erosion, an initiative such as this adds value to states metropolis by making it more business viable and tourist friendly.
CONSTRUCTION OF CITY GATE
City gates at the entrance points of the pacesetter state could only be described as a landmark on the soil of the ancient Yoruba land. A Beautiful city gate just like the models shown would in no small vein boost developmental growth of the pacesetter state. Helping to preserve, protect and enhance its beauty, now and for generations to come.
CONVERSION OF DEFACED “LARGE OPEN SPACES” INTO TOURIST GARDENS
Due to the extensive land mass of the state, the conversion of some of these open spaces sited within the city metropolis could help boost the tourism potential of the pacesetter state. Taking a cue from developed nations with parks like the Trafalgar square which is one of the most popular meeting spots in London, Madison square garden in New-york amongst others.
The pacesetter state has what it takes to set a greater pace in environmental makeovers that would uplift the state, the society and even the nation as a whole. It is time for a change.
