GOVERNOR ADEBAYO ALAO-AKALA'S
ADMINISTRATION HAS NOT CONTRACTED ANY FOREIGN LOAN
SINCE ITS INCEPTION. |
|
Contrary
to reports credited to some national daily newspapers, the
Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor
Adebayo Alao-Akala has not contracted any foreign loan since
its inception.
|
|
The
State Commissioner for Finance, Chief Bayo Bankole disclosed
this yesterday in Ibadan while briefing the press at the end
of the State Executive Council meeting.
|
|
According to the Commissioner, the last time a foreign loan
was obtained by the State Government was in 2004 under the
administration of Governor Rashidi Ladoja.
|
|
He
explained that the incumbent government has continued to
service the loan monthly to the tune of over N142
million despite the fact that it did not obtain the loan.
|
|
The
Commissioner said that the past administration then made
several attempts to effect a reduction on the amount
required to be paid on the loan stressing that the present
government had not relented in servicing the loan
appropriately.
|
|
He said
that it was unfair for any individual or group to insinuate
that the present administration was mortgaging the future of
the people as contained in the newspaper reports, adding
that the present administration would not engage in any act
that could endanger the future of the State and the people.
|
|
Also,
briefing the press, the State Commissioner for Commerce and
Cooperative, Dr. Kola Balogun express government displeasure
with slow pace of work on the Iwo Road – Olodo dualisation,
Odo – Ona Elewe and Agugu Gbaremu poultry extension road
project. |
|
He said
that the contractor handling the road project had been given
Two weeks within which to show significant improvement on
the project or face the decisive action from the government.
|
|
In his
remark, the state Commissioner for Environment Alhaji
Aborode Majekodunmi said that the state government had taken
delivery of One Hundred skip bins which he said will be
deployed to strategic locations, while the twenty roll-on
trucks procured by the government would be put to use by the
end of the week as part of the government to keep the state
clean. |
|
He also
added that the State Government has approved over 60 million
naira to Ibadan North Local Government chairman to evacuate
heap of refuse at Bodija market abattoir in its drive to
ensure a healthier and cleaner environment with the market.
