IBARAPA EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Ibarapa Central Local Government was carved out of defunct Local Government in 1996 with Administrative Headquarters located in Igbo Ora.

Occupying a land area of 480.424 square kilometer with a population density of 243 persons per squre kilometer, the 2010 estimated population figures is put at 116,809 using 3.2% growth rate from 2006 census. Ibarapa Central Local Government Area shares boundaries with Ibarapa North Local Government area to the north, Ibarapa East Local Government Area too the north east and Ogun State to the South.

With fairly plain and undulating land terrain, people of the Local Government Area are able to practice farming activities successfully. The women in the area also engage in petty trading.

The residents of the area are Yorubas and other tribe from various parts of the country. They are farmers, traders and transporters.

ACHIEVEMENTS

 

Education and Social Services

Distribution of poverty alleviation materials to the less-privileged in the council area

e.g. Sewing machines, grinding machines, generating sets, motorbikes etc

Financial assistance to physically-challenged people in the area

Presentation of 4 official cars to traditional rulers in the council area

Purchase of 4 official cars for political functionaries and 1 for career officer

Construction of a block of 3 classrooms at Okolo via Eruwa

Construction of a block of 3 classrooms at Lanlate

Rehabilitation of woman (Mrs Tawa Sadiku) of Oke Oja area in Eruwa and her set of twins

Internet facility put in place at the Local Government Secretariat

Donation of about N400,000.00 for the construction of NULGE house (still in progress)

 

Agriculture

The newly-constructed poultry has been stocked with 700 layers with eggs being sold to the public

Hiring of tractors to farmers at highly subsidized rates

Aggressive and regular extension services to farmers in every nook and cranny of the local government e.g. training of farmers on cocoa farming

Proposed acquisition of 2,562 hectares of land for cassava cultivation along Badagry-Sokoto expressway

Establishment of 30 hectares of oil palm plantation

 

Health

Free hernia operation was carried out on about 200 patients at the newly commissioned Model Health Centre at Afuye-Ijesa.  This was done in conjunction

with Oyo State Association of Medical and Dental Officers.  In the same vein, free eye operation will soon be carried out on people with eye defects in 2009

Provision of drugs and medical equipment for Health Centres

Renovation of health centres at various locations in the council area e.g. Maya

Routine Immunization programme is being embarked upon Awareness/sensitization programme on HIV/AIDS pandemic with a rally from Eruwa to Lanlate/Maya

Awareness/sensitization programme on TB and Leprosy

There is financial support to people living with HIV/AIDS

Provision of free HIV/AIDS screening centres at Anko, Oke-Oba, New Eruwa, Maya, etc

Donation of cash gifts to in-patients at General Hospitals, Eruwa and Lanlate on New Year days (January 1, 2008 and January 1, 2009)

Donation of STOREX water tanks to General Hospitals in Eruwa and Lanlate, as well as Awojobi Private Clinic respectively

Observation of monthly environment sanitation programme and mobilizing people to maintain a healthy environment

Chlorination of all deep wells across the 10 wards in order to prevent water-borne diseases

 

Works and Housing

Landscaping and beautification of the Local Government Secretariat complex (on-going)

Grading of roads across the ten wards of the council area

Completion of 2.1km township road at Lanlate

Asphalt tarring of 2km new Eruwa road

Completion of new Executive Council Chamber

Extension of Legislative Council Building with office accommodation for 10

Councilors (on-going)

Construction of lined drains at Lanlate and Eruwa

Digging of 25 deep wells across the ten (10) wards of the Local Government

Asphalt tarring of 3.5k road in Lanlate and Eruwa (to be completed in July, 2009)

 

Security Matters

Reconstruction of peace and security committee

Peace meetings are being held with Fulani’s and Bororo’s on regular basis in order to maintain cordial relationship between them and the villagers

An increase in the monthly stipends of vigilante group from N5,500 to N8,500 monthly in order to make them perform well

Provision of fuel and regular maintenance of vigilante vehicles

Maintenance of cordial relationship with all the security agencies in the council (e.g. Police, SSS, Immigration, FRSC, etc)

 

Administration and General Services

Regular payments of salaries, allowances, leave bonus and disbursement of car refurbishing loans

Regular training and retraining of workers

Provision/maintenance of official vehicles – 12 in number (5 new cars and 7 tokunbo cars)

Promotion exercise for junior staff is carried out as at when due

Weekly release of fund to Water Corporation to buy diesel for pumping of water

Financial assistance is given to PHCN to enable them provide materials to facilitate stable supply of electricity
