IWAJOWA LOCAL GOVERNMENT
Iwajowa Local Government Area was carved out of the old Kajola Local Government in 1996 with the Administrative Headquater located at Iwere-Ile. It occupies a land area of 2,397.404 square kilometers. It share common boundaries with Ibarapa North, Kajola, Iseyin, Itesiwaju and Atisbo Local Government Areas. It also has common boundaries with Ogun State and the Republic of Benin.
The 2010 estimated population for the Local Government area is put at 116,811 using 3.2% growth rate from 2006 census. It has a population density of 49 persons per square kilometer. The residents of the area are Yoruba and other tribes whose major occupation’s is farming.
The Local Government Area is blessed with fertile land for the cultivation of maize, cassava, rice, groundnuts, cashew nut, oranges, mangoes and cotton. Agricultural activities of the people include fish farming, sheep, goats and cattle rearing. Saw-milling and wood processing also contribute to internally generated revenue for the Local Government Area. The tourist attraction centres in the Area include Ossi Hill at Iganna, Gbedu Hill at Iwere Ile, Ofiki River Bridge, Okpara River at Ayegun Wasimi, Okpara Forest reserve between Ayegun border and Republic of Benin, Idiko Ago mining areas at Ilaji Ile. However, the Obo, Osii, Ilele and Kotobawo Hills are notable for important roles played during the Yoruba inter-tribal war.
