KAJOLA LOCAL GOVERNMENT
Kajola Local Government area is one of the oldest in the State. It was created during the colonial rule in 1955 and it was then known ad Okeho/Iganna district council. It was finally created as Kajola Local Government area in 1976.
The Administrative Headquarters of Kajola Local Government Area is located at Okeho. The Local Government Area which occupies a land area of 646.346 square kilometer shares boundaries with Itesiwaju Local Government Area to the North and north east, Iseyin Local Government Area to the south east and Iwajowa Local Government Area to the west. Projection from 2006 population census, using a growth rate of 3.2% puts 2010 estimated population for the Local Government area at 227,991 with a population density of 353 persons per square kilometer.
The Local Government Area is dominated by the Yorubas and other resident tribes with Christianity, Islamic and Traditional religious background.
Endowed with wide expanse of land suitable for farming activities, the Local Government is notable for the cultivation of cashew and few other cash crops. Majority of the people are predominantly farmers abundance of timber stimulates the growth of sawmills. It is also noted for the people’s artistry in pot making.
