OLORUNSOGO LOCAL GOVERNMENT

The administrative headquarters of Olorunsogo Local Government Area is located at Igbeti. This Local Government area was carved out of Irepo Local Government Areas in 1996 and it covers a landmass of 1,070.216 square kilometers with a population density of 87 persons per square kilometers. Using a growth rate of 3.2% from 2006 census, the 2010 estimated population for the Local Government was projected to be 92,739. The Local Government Area shares boundaries with Irepo Local Government Area to the north, Orelope Local Government Area to the west, Atiba and Oriire Local Government Areas to the south and Kwara State to the East.

Majority of the residents are Yorubas. Other ethnic groups like Hausas, Fulani, Igbos, Tiv and Idoma are also residing in the area. The people are of different religious backgrounds. i.e Christianity, Islamic and Traditional Religious.

The Local Government Area is endowed with wide expanse of land suitable for farming activities. The people are predominantly farmers and cattles rearers. It is located in the tropical zone with savannah vegetation made of tall grasses and few trees. It is also a notable place for marble.

ACHIEVEMENTS

1.      Newly purchased 100KVA Generator for the use in the Local Government Secretariat.

2.      One Borehole sunk along Igbeti-Igboho Road for the use of the general public.

3.      A Kia Sorento Jeep purchased for the use of Onigbeti of Igbetiland

4.      Purchase of vehicles to the Onigbeti of Igbetiland and three (3) other Traditional Chiefs within the Local Government

 

Road Construction:

1.      1.5Km Road Along Fedomu-Oritamefa Street, Igbeti

2.      Omolayo RoadIgbeti

3.      Asphaltic tarring of Bonni Road to Kishi Bye Pass, igbeti

4.      Roundabout at Oritamefa Junction, Ayetoro Igbeti

5.      Line Drainage constructed Along Igbeti-Bonni Road to prevent erosion

6.      Concrete double cell box culvert at the Approach of Ogudu River Igbeti

7.      A Double cell bridge constructed Along Igbeti-Bonni Road

 

Rural Electrification Scheme:

1.      Electricity extension work at Oke Kraal Area Along St. Mary’s Road, Igbeti.

2.      A new 500KVA Electric Transformer procured and installed at Oke Ibukun Area, Igbeti.

 

Health Care Delivery Service:

1.      Sensitization programme for nursing mothers on breastfeeding.

2.      Training Programme organized for Health Officers on Ward Minimal Health Care Package (WMHCP).

3.      Chlorination of Wells in the Local Government.

4.      Financing immunization exercises regularly.

5.      Prompt release of funds for purchase and distribution of drugs to health centres.
