ORELOPE LOCAL GOVERNMENT
Oorelope Local Government Area was carved out of Old Irepo Local Government Area in 1989 with administrative headquarter located at Igboho. The Local Government has a land area of 893.082 square kilometers with a population density of 133 persons per square kilometer. Using a growth rate of 3.2% from 2006 population census, the 2010 estimated population for the area was projected tobe 118,467. Located in the northern part of Oyo State, Oorelope Local Government Area is bounded in the North by Irepo Local Government Area, Olorunsogo Local Government Area in the east, Saki East and Saki West Local Government Areas in the west, Oyo Local Government Area in the south and in the North East by Baureten Local Government Area of Kwara State.
There are rivulets, streams, brooks and springs, which serve as tributaries to rivers Ogun, most of them having water during the raining season and dry up in the dry season.
The residents are Yorubas and other tribes from various places. The people are farmers and cattle rearers. Cultivation of yam and cassava is prominently in the area as the fertility of the soil demands. The Local Government Area is an attraction to commercial farmers from outside such as Iseyin, Ilorin, Benue, Nassarawa etc. Economic trees like Iroko, Locust bean, shea cowpea, gineacorn, melon and vegetables. Rice is a newly introduced fast growing crop in the area.
The geological formation shows evidence of existence of mineral resources in the area.
