SAKI EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Saki East Local Government area was carved out of defunct Ifedapo Local Government area in 1996. The administrative headquarters of the Local Government area is situated at Ago-Amodu. It comprises of five (5) major towns i.e Ago Amodu, Sepeteri, Oje Owode, Ogbooro and Agbonle and over two hundred other villages and farm settlements.

It is situated in the heart of rural savannah region and bounded in the east by Oorelope Local Government area, Oriire Local Government are in the south, Atisbo and Saki West in the west and by the Barutten Local Government (Kwara State) in the north.

The terrain is undulating with a landmass of 1,484.843 square kilometers and a population density of 84 persons per square kilometer. The 2010 estimated population for the Local Government was projected to be 125,026 based on a growth rate of 3.2% using 2006 census figures. The residents who are different religious background are Yorubas and other tribes from various parts of the country.

The Local Government is endowed with various mineral resources like Tantalite, Talcum, Berrylium (Tin), Columbite and Gold in small quantity.

Befitting tourist attraction centres can also be located in the Local Government area. Among them are: Old Oyo National Park and Games Reserve at Speteri, rocks formation at Ogbooro, Yemoso mountain with lion den and solid mineral resources centre at Sepeteri.

Farming activities in the area is made easy by vast expanse of undulating virgin land. A considerable percentage of the people engage in large scale production of maize, yam, cassava, millet and sorghum. Large plantation of cashew, sheer butter and locust bean trees are located in the area. Fish farming also appears to be profitable as ponds, streams and dams are part of the Local Government endowments.

-        Reconstruction of Maternity Centre at Oje – Owode

-        Asphalt concrete overlay of Maternity – Alagbede road, Sapeteri

-        Asphalt concrete tarring of Local Government Secretariat road, Ago – Amodu

-        Asphalt concrete tarring of Ajanko road, Ogbooro.

-        Asphalt concrete tarring of Celtel road, Oje – Owode.

-        Asphalt concrete tarring of dam road, Ago – Amodu.

-        Construction of 4 classrooms block at Arolu Grammar School, Agbonle.

-        Construction of 3 classrooms block plus office and store at Baptist Primary School Ogbooro.

-        Construction of 4 classrooms block at N.U.D Primary School Oje – Owode.

-        Construction of 3 bed – room flat at the State Hospital Ogbooro  (Doctor’s Quarters)

-        Extension of electricity to the State Hospital Ogbooro.

-        Fencing of the State Hospital Ogbooro.

-        Construction of 834m line drainage across the ward of the Local Government.

-        Resuscitation of Komastu and Changlyn Graders.

-        Rehabilitation of Rural Road in all the wards of the Local Government;

-        Asphalt tarring of Reservoir road, Ago – Amodu.

-        Asphalt tarring of Eyinle road, Oje – Owode.

-        Asphalt tarring of Isale Akindi road, Sapeteri

-        Asphalt tarring of Local Government staff Quarters road, Ago – Amodu

-        Asphalt tarring of Agbonle – Guest House, Ataye road, Agbole

-        Purchase and distribution of [90] bundles of aluminum roofing sheets for primary schools, most of which roofs hither to had been blown off  by rain storm.

-        Distribution of 60 motor cycles to un – employed youths to reduce crime rates .

-        Distribution of 66 grinding machines to unemployed Women and Widows as part of poverty alleviation, wives of the Royal Father inclusive.

-        Recruitment of additional Ad – hoc Vigilante Patrol Men and Night Guards, with an upward review of their monthly allowance.

-        Procurement of 6 motors cycles on loan scheme to Vigilantes.

-        Procurement of communication Gadgets, Uniform, Rain coat and other necessary material to the Vigilantes

-        Resuscitation of 2 broken down vigilante patrol vehicle.

-        Provision of 50 Iron cross bars for PHCN with additional Electric Poles and cutting Vegetation along PHCN Power lines

-        Introduction of Busary Scheme for Students in Tertiary Institutions.

-        Provision of free eye test for over 700 people who had their eyes tested by competent medical consultants with about:

          [a]     400 given medication

          [b]     55 people given eye glasses

          [c]      30 people still undergoing eye surgery at UCH Ibadan.

-        Donation of 2 motor cycle to the immunization unit by the Hon. Chairperson, Mrs. Adenike Adesina wife of the Executive Chairman of Saki East Local Government.

-        Monthly purchase of essential drugs

-        Purchase of parts and ploughs and resuscitation of 6 broken down tractors.
