SAKI EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT
Saki East Local Government area was carved out of defunct Ifedapo Local Government area in 1996. The administrative headquarters of the Local Government area is situated at Ago-Amodu. It comprises of five (5) major towns i.e Ago Amodu, Sepeteri, Oje Owode, Ogbooro and Agbonle and over two hundred other villages and farm settlements.
It is situated in the heart of rural savannah region and bounded in the east by Oorelope Local Government area, Oriire Local Government are in the south, Atisbo and Saki West in the west and by the Barutten Local Government (Kwara State) in the north.
The terrain is undulating with a landmass of 1,484.843 square kilometers and a population density of 84 persons per square kilometer. The 2010 estimated population for the Local Government was projected to be 125,026 based on a growth rate of 3.2% using 2006 census figures. The residents who are different religious background are Yorubas and other tribes from various parts of the country.
The Local Government is endowed with various mineral resources like Tantalite, Talcum, Berrylium (Tin), Columbite and Gold in small quantity.
Befitting tourist attraction centres can also be located in the Local Government area. Among them are: Old Oyo National Park and Games Reserve at Speteri, rocks formation at Ogbooro, Yemoso mountain with lion den and solid mineral resources centre at Sepeteri.
Farming activities in the area is made easy by vast expanse of undulating virgin land. A considerable percentage of the people engage in large scale production of maize, yam, cassava, millet and sorghum. Large plantation of cashew, sheer butter and locust bean trees are located in the area. Fish farming also appears to be profitable as ponds, streams and dams are part of the Local Government endowments.
