The Oyo State Governor, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala has attributed the success of his administration so far to the various criticisms and suggestions especially from the opposition. He stated this yesterday in Ibadan at the formal presentation of a book titled “two years of purposeful governance in Oyo State” at the Cultural Centre. The Governor also said that constant wise counsel and advice from both the private and public sectors as well as traditional rulers had kept his administration on thus far. Otunba Akala also declared that God through His mercy had given him victory over series of challenges including court litigations aimed at upturning his election through which he became the Governor of the state. Otunba Alao-Akala said that the book showcasing all the achievements of his government in the last two years was published with pictorials to enhance the reading culture of the people. He expressed satisfaction with the 315 page book presented to the public, advising the 33 Local Government councils and others who contributed to the publication of the book and the development of the state not to rest on the oars in the areas of roads, education, health, poverty alleviation and woman empowerment. In his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Olayiwola Olakojo who is also the Chairman of the book Production Committee called on members of the public to obtain copies of the book as evidence of government development effort covering all parts of the state. The book reviewer Prof. Bayo Okunade, a political scientist from the University of Ibadan described a responsible government as one accountable to the people in all spheres of its administration. According to him, a good governance could be measured by the responsiveness of the government in power to issues of security, effective management of public affairs and coordination of various organs of government towards the overall development of its area. While presenting the book, the Aare Musulumi of Yoruba land, Alhaji Arisekola Alao who was represented by Alhaji Kamil Koyejo Olosho formally launched the book with N2 million calling on all and sundry to continue to pray for sustained peace, prosperity and progress of Oyo State.
