Distribution of Relief Materials from Oyo State Emergency Management Agency

The present administration under the able leadership of His Excellency Senator Abiola Ajimobi in collaboration with the Federal Government through the National Emergency Management Agency has successfully carried out the distribution of relief materials to victims of 2017 rainstorm and fire disasters across the State.

  • His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Moses Alake Adeyemo who represented His Excellency the Governor Flagged-off the Distribution Ceremony held at Community High School, Airport Road, Alakia, Ibadan in Ona-Ara Local Government and Inukan Local Council Development Areas on Thursday 25th January, 2018.
  • Following the successful flag-off Ceremony, the Agency has continued the distribution exercise in the following Fourteen (14) LCDAs and Eleven (11) LGAs:

However, the remaining Eleven 11 LGAs, LCDAs beneficiaries of the relief materials are at present planning the distribution ceremony.

Libya Returnees

  • The State Government through OYSEMA had successfully evacuated Forty (40) Oyo State indigenes among Libya returnees from the Hajj Camp wing of the Port-Harcourt International Airport, River State to Ibadan between January and February, 2018. The returnees have since been rehabilitated, financially compensated and re-united with their families.
  • The Secretary to the Agency along with one of the Libya returnees, Mr.

Tobiloluwa featured on a live radio programme on Star F.M 90.5 tagged “Kayegbo” to share experience in Libya and discourage those that might want to venture into travelling to Europe by road through Libya. The programme was aired on 19th Feburary, 2018.

Inspection of facilities and Temporary Taking-over of IDP Camp under construction

  • His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Moses Alake Adeyemo in company the Administrative Secretary and Officials of this Agency visited the Federal Government financed Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp under construction in Ona-Ara Local Government Area, Akanran, Ibadan on Wednesday, 11th April, 2018 to inspect progress on the additional facilities project being provided at the camp preparatory to the arrival of the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation.

Following the approval of the State Government on the request of

the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation (PCFR&R) to

temporarily hand –over the completed additional facilities at the Internally

Displaced Persons’ Camp in Akanran, to the state, the Committee, Team led by

Mr. Owolcho arrived Ibadan on Thursday, 12th April, 2018 for the exercise.

  • The inspection and Temporary handing-over of the completed additional

facilities which includes, Administrative Blocks, Warehouse, Kitchen, Gate house

and Perimeter fencing was carried out on Friday, 13th April, 2018. The essence of

the temporary handing-over of the completed additional facilities is to ensure

adequate protection for the camp with a view to preventing marauders from

pilfering the structures.

Advocacy Visit of Urban  Africa Risk knowledge

  • A group of Researchers of Urban Africa Risk Knowledge (Urban ARK) from University of Ibadan on Tuesday, 15th May, 2018 paid an advocacy visit on His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Moses Alake Adeyemo. The visit enabled the Researchers to share their knowledge of Urban Risks in Ibadan and impact strategies for planning towards risk reduction and sustainable development as well as poverty alleviation with His Excellency the Deputy Governor.
  • Responding, His Excellency, the Deputy Governor on behalf of the present administration and the good people of Oyo State appreciated the researcher’s efforts so far courtesy Urban Ark Project . He enjoined the sponsor of Urban ARK to look at the possibility of assisting the State financially in implementing their Findings.

SENSITIZATION PROGRAMMEThe Secretary to the Agency featured on a live television programme on

MITV to sensitize the public on disaster management during the rainy season and the role of the public in mitigating it. The programme was aired on 26th May, 2018.
