Oyo State Government has declared zero tolerance for street trading and trading under high tension wire across the State, just as he urged traders to move to the neighborhood market built for their use in their various areas.
The State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Chief Isaac Ishola stated this during a special enforcement exercise on street trading in Ibadan, the State Capital.
Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Mr. Gabriel Oguntola said zero tolerance for street trading is not meant to brutalized anybody but to ensure free flow of traffic with clean and hygienic environment for every citizens to leave.
He said efforts are in pipeline to hold discussion with National Union of Roads Transport Workers (NURTW) and Association of Motorcycle Riders of Nigeria (ACOMMORAN) with leaders in each garages of the State to support the State Government effort to sustain the tempo on zero tolerance for street trading in the State.
He then urged all street traders in the State to move to the Neighborhood market built for them in their various areas to complement the State Government policy on environmental regulations standard in the State capital.
However, one of the commercial motorist Mr Sadiq Adigun in Agodi-Gate area of the State expressed satisfaction on the level of work done by the Environment Ministry on street trading.
He commended the State Government efforts on sanitation exercise for Thursdays and last Saturday of the Month.
While performing the exercise, One recastirant filling station were sealed in Mokola and other street trading materials were also seized in Iwo- Road, Gate and Academy.
