Oyo State Government through the Bureau of Physical Planning and Development Control on Tuesday closed down the premises of a Church at Iyaganku area in Ibadan for failure to comply with State Planning laws.
The new Church building which is still under construction belonging to Christ Mercy Church situated at Familusi Avenue, Iyaganku area in Ibadan had been served with two different notices from the State Planning Authority for contravention before its eventual collapse on the 9th of Aug. 2018. The Contravention Notice was served to the Church on the 18th of Dec. 2017, while Stop Work Notice was served on the 25th of Jan. 2018, but the Church refused to comply with the orders.
The Director General, Bureau of Physical Planning and Development Control, Alh Waheed Gbadamosi, while briefing the media on the reason for the action taken by the Burea, disclosed that a letter of Revocation of Approval was sent to the Church in April based on the violation of Physical Planning Space Standard and the refusal of the Church to sign a letter of resolution with other residence of the area.
Alh Gbadamosi added that it became Paramount for the Bureau to seal the premises for security reasons after some parts of the building under construction collapsed on the 9th of Aug. 2018. He noted that the Church premises will remain sealed into certified okay for amendment by Engineers from the Ministry of works.
The DG therefore called on other culprits that have been served with different notices from the State Planning Authority like Banks, Religious and Event Centers, Radio Stations etc, to comply with the orders from the Bureau or face the wrath of the law.
