Water Corporation of Oyo State evolved out of the then Western Nigeria Water Corporation through the enabling Water Corporation of Oyo State (Amendment) Law of 2006. The Corporation has Six (6) Directorates namely, Directorate of Administration and Supplies, Finance and Accounts, Operations and Maintenance, Quality Control, Mechanical and Electrical, Commercial Services and some Units such as Project Implementation Unit, Internal Audit Unit. The political head of the Corporation is the Chairman and Board Members appointed by His Excellency, Governor of Oyo State. Also the Administrative head who is the Chief Accounting Officer of the Corporation is the General Manager appointed by His Excellency, Governor of Oyo State.

To ensure un-interrupted provision of potable water for the use of the good people of Oyo State at reasonable charges for improved standard of living and enhanced socio-economic activities.

Our Mission

Production and distribution of potable water for the use of human and agro-industrial purposes through construction, installation and operation of necessary water infrastructures on behalf of Oyo State Government.

Our Objectives

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

Production and distribution of drinking water to the people of Oyo State in the right quantity and quality and at reasonable charges, and using water as a key factor to facilitate healthy living standard of the people and sustainable environmental, agricultural and industrial development of Oyo State.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE CORPORATION

The primary duties and specific objectives of the Corporation as stated in the Water Corporation of Oyo State Edict No. 24 of 1977 include the following:

(i)       To control and manage all waterworks vested in the Corporation.

(ii)      To establish, control, manage, extend and develop new Water Schemes and to extend and develop existing ones as the Corporation may deem necessary for the purpose of providing adequate water in order to meet the requirements of the general public, agriculture, trade and industry in various parts of Oyo State.

DIRECTORATE OF ADMINISTRATION AND SUPPLIES

  • The Directorate handles personnel matters which include recruitments, Discipline, staff welfare and motivation;
  • The Directorate facilitates training and re-training of staff;
  • Attends to Public Relations matter;
  • Administration of legal matters, Management of Land and Property of the Corporation;
  • Collation of Monthly and Annual report of the Corporation;
  • Stores Administration;
  • Budget, Planning, Research and Statistics.

DIRECTORATE OF FINANCE AND ACCOUNTS

  • Preparation of the Corporation’s accounts;
  • Preparation of statistics relating to finance;
  • Fund raising, revenue collection, investment of funds and disbursement of funds;
  • Handling Internal Accounts and Internal Audit.

DIRECTORATE OF OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

  • Supervision of the maintenance of water supplies in the State;
  • Collection of operational data for advising on proposals for new schemes or extension to existing schemes;
  • Keeping up-to-date records of drawing;
  • Development of new techniques and standard designs;
  • Liaison with the Department of Government responsible for health matters and collection of data for annual reports.

DIRECTORATE OF MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL

  • The directorate plays advisory role on all mechanical and Electrical matters of policy;
  • It also handles installation, maintenance and repair of Mechanical and Electrical equipment of the Corporation.

DIRECTORATE OF DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

  • Conducting preliminary surveys and estimates for new water works, standard design and research;
  • Engagement of and liaison with consultants;
  • Recommendation and collection of hydrological data;
  • Liasion with other authorities concerning the requirements of data for future works, vetting of contracts, drilling and direct supervision of special contracts.

DIRECTORATE OF QUALITY CONTROL

  • Formulation and supervision of water treatment policies and procedures;
  • Formulation and supervision of laboratory policies and procedures;
  • Design and control of new water treatment projects;
  • Certification of the quality of water treatment chemical supplied to the Corporation.

DIRECTORATE OF COMMERCIAL SERVICES

  • The Directorate of Commercial Service was established in the year 2002.The Directorate is in charge of water billing activities i.e processing of Computerized water bills on monthly and quarterly basis. And to ensure its distribution across the various District of Water Corporation of Oyo State;
  • The  Directorate is responsible for collection of revenue from various categories of consumer as well as updating the consumer’s accounts.

 

INTERNAL AUDIT UNIT

  • Institution of control on expenses of the Corporation.
  • Checking the approved payment as to the correctness of preparation.
  • To ensure that due process is duly followed.
  • To ensure that all payments to be made are from approved vote.
  • To ensure that the money to be expended on a vote is not exceeded so that it would not affect other votes.
  • To ensure compliance with statutory audit pronouncements.

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION UNIT

  • Project Implementation Unit (PIU) Project Management Team (PMT) was formed to manage External Funded Project/Intervention.
  • The main function of the PIU is to manage the projects and acts as an interface between the Donor Agency and the Oyo State Government vis-à-vis Water Corporation of Oyo State.
  • It is also a requirement of the Donor Agency that a dedicated pool of staff be seconded to the PIU and trained by the Bank for the purpose.
  • Asejire Water Supply Scheme was rehabilitated raising its production capability from about 20% to 80% and its production performance from 8.22% to 62% as at March, 2014.
  • Asejire Central Laboratory was equipped with modern analytical equipment yet to be found in any water producting Agency in Nigeria.
  • Eleyele Waterworks submerged by the flood incidence of 26th August, 2011 was resuscitated from 0% to 100% of its production capacity.
  • Construction of 33kv Dedicated Power Line to Saki Waterworks.
  • The 33kv Dedicated powerline at Ogbomoso was rehabilitated.
  • Some critical old and damaged concrete inter pace pipelines at Eleyele, Mokola and Bodija were successfully relaid.
  • Construction and installation treatment and pumping plants with reticulation system were completed.
  • Provision of potable water for replants of Iganna Community.
  • Construction and installation of treatment and pumping plants for provision of potable water for the Committee in Lalupon, Ejioku, Osegere, Erunmu.
  • Rehabilitation o water booster station at Beere, Ososami, Mokola and Sango.
  • Refurblishment of reservoirs at Oke-Ado in Liberty Stadium area and Oke-Itunu.
  • Expansion of water pipelines to areas like Apete and Ajibode.
