Oyo State Government in its quest to promote small scale investors in rural areas and attain sustainable development in the state has facilitated the inclusion of six additional Local Governments to join three participating councils in the ongoing Federal Government and International Fund for Agricultural Development supported empowerment scheme tagged Rural Finance Institution Building Programme (RUFIN)
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, Mr. Victor Atilola disclosed this at a day sensitization and awareness creation workshop on development of small scale businesses in rural areas held at Ona- Ara in Akanran and Oluyole Local Governments Secretariat hall , Idi Ayunre, Ibadan.
Mr. Atilola , who was represented at the programme by the State Coordinator, Rural Finance Institution Building Programme, Comrade Olusola Ogundiran said that the workshop was aimed at harnessing relevant stakeholders’ for successful implementation of the project and create necessary awareness about the programme to enhance active participation and optimum understanding of the project by residents of the new participating Local Governments.
He stressed further that the task of developing rural communities’ lies on all and sundry which he described as bedrock of overall development of any nation.
According to him, RUFIN would provide farmers and entrepreneurs in rural areas ranging from youths, women, physically challenged people amongst others access to business management trainings both home and abroad and link them up with finance institutions to access low interest rate loan without presenting collateral for sustainable development of the beneficiaries. Also, the empowerment would be done in clusters, hence there is need for participants to build committed cooperative groups with minimum of ten and maximum of twenty active members in order to benefit from the project ‘He hinted’
While commending Governor Abiola Ajimobi for the payment of counterpart fund up to 2016 , Mr. Atilola enjoined rural entrepreneurs to register their names with RUFIN desk officers in their respective local Governments Secretariat where the programme exist and be conscious of fraudulent people who may demand for bribe under disguise of the laudable project.
In his remarks, the Caretaker Chairman, Ona – Ara Local Government, Hon. Biliaminu Ogundele appealed to residents of the council to replicate the good gesture extended to the community by the State Government through total commitment to the project for the programme to come to stay in the Local Government.
In their separate remarks, the Secretary, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) , Ona Ara Local Government, Elder Akindele Moyosore and Doctor Esther Olanrewaju ,an advocate of community development in Oluyole Local Government admonished participants to believe in the project, make honesty their watch words and participate actively in the programme considering its significant role in alleviating poverty in the community.
The beneficiary Local Government includes Atisbo, Akinyele, Ibarapa East, and Afijio. Others are Ona – Ara, Oluyole, Orire, Ibarapa north and Iwajowa Local Government council areas of the State.
