Oyo Sate Government has awarded scholarship worth millions of naira to ninety nine indigenes of the state based on merit to assist them pursue their academic carrier in the Technical University, located at Oluyole Local Government, Ibadan.
The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Bimbo Kolade disclosed this at the orientation programme organised for the pioneer students of the institution which took place at the institution’s hostel Hall.
Hon. Kolade hinted that each local Government in the state produced three beneficiaries sponsored by their local Government chairmen to ensure the citizens of the state also benefit from the rare opportunities that awaits numerous people in the first Technical University in West Africa which has come to stay.
The Commissioner stressed further that the institution would offer the students opportunity to learn French language, as this would enable them secure international jobs with ease especially in French Speaking countries
“You have the opportunity to be the best you could be being a student of this institution to be tutored by scholars in various field couple with access to modern teaching equipment. Road to success may be rough, with determination and commitment, you would become champions of next generation in Nigeria and also compete favourably with your counterparts in any part of the world ‘ He added
Hon. Kolade, however enjoined the beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity given to them and imbibe the spirit of giving back to their various communities for the development of the state
In their separate remarks, the Pro. Chancellor, Technical University, Ibadan, Prof. Obe Ibidapo owe and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ayobami Salami said the institution is committed to transform the students and ensure they acquire necessary skills that would enable them become employers of labour rather than job seekers.
The duo stated further that the institution would place optimum concentration on theory and practical aspects of courses run by the institution to make them super genius products.
“No student will graduate without succeeding in learning two different vocational skills as well as acquiring certificate of competency in French language. The students would equally participate in international competitions that will bring out the best in them, presently best student will pocket two hundred and fifty thousand naira annually after an heathy competitions among the students’
While commending Oyo State Government for investing in lives of the beneficiaries, Prof. Ayobami urged the students to believe in themselves and relate appropriately with staffers of the institution.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Deborah Oluwabusayo and Ajisafe Afees who hails from Afijio and Ido Local Governments respectively thanked Governor Abiola Ajimobi for supporting them in bringing their dreams into reality.
“The opportunity came as surprise, we are indeed grateful and promised to be good ambassadors of the state” They added.
