03 Sep Oyo Government Pays Over #1. 4 Billion As Gratuity
As part of the activities marking the first 100 days in office of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, an approval for the payment of over #1. 4 billion has been given by the Governor for disbursement to retired primary school teachers and Local Government staff, in the Pacesetter State.
While flagging off the distribution of cheques to the benefiaries at the Conference Room of Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, Water Corporations Building, Secretariat, Ibadan, the State Head of Service, Alhaja Hamidat Olololade Agboola, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Service Matters, Office of the Head of Service. Alh. Fatai Oladeinde, stated unequivocally that the State Government, under Engr. Seyi Makinde, was opening another record in terms of Pensioners welfare in the State by flagging off the payment of gratuity to about one thousand Pensioners from primary schools and Local Government, who retired between 2010 and 2012.
“The present administration is not oblivious of the hardship, pains and challenges being faced by our senior citizens, as a result of the backlog of unpaid benefits over the years. Governor Seyi Makinde has therefore resolved to face the challenge squarely. All he needs from us is our support and prayers so as to take the State to an enviable height, ” Alhaja Agboola said.
Earlier in her address of welcome, the Secretary Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Dr. (Mrs.) Ayodele Busari had appreciated God for making the day a reality., affirming that ” with the magnanimity of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, in releasing this lump sum at once, our senior citizens will definitely be repositioned financially to enjoy life after retirement.”
Speaking further, Dr. Busari eulogised the Governor for his support towards the course of the retirees in the State, and for his political will to actualize his vision.” Indeed, it is the dawn of a new Era not only for Pensioners but for the people of Oyo State in general”, she said.
In their various goodwill messages, the State NLC Chairman, Comrade Bayo Titilola Sodo, the State NUP Secretary, Comrade Segun Abatan and one of the beneficiaries, Mr. Afolabi Sunday Abiodun, all expressed their gratitude to Engr Seyi Makinde for making the economy of Oyo State to boom through this gesture because the money would definitely circulate round the State. They then prayed for him not to have evil advisers who would want to derail his administration.
