NMA Holds Southwest Zonal Games In Ibadan

…..Supports Promotion of Tourist Sites in Oyo State

Executive members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) have disclosed that the body would hold its Southwest zonal games in Ibadan, Oyo State capital between the 5th and 8th of December 2019.

The Association disclosed this on Tuesday while paying a courtesy visit to the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun at his office, promising the State to use the medical game to explore tourists sites in the State.

The leader of the delegation, Dr. Akin Sopdipo said the Southwest zonal games would be used to select various zonal teams at the next NMA national games that would hold soon.

He sought the support of the State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism towards maximizing the possibility of exploring the State tourism potentials.

“The Zonal Games would be the deciding exercise to select the most capable of the teams that would be qualified for the national games soon, but while we are here for the zonal games, we plan to explore tourism potentials in the State and we believe we can do that with ease through the support of the State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.

“We have heard of so many tourists sites in Ibadan and other parts of the State, like Ikere George Dam at Iseyin, Bower’s Tower at Ibadan among others, we can go to these places with ease and get the stories behind them through the support of the Ministry and that is why we are here.”

The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun appreciated the association for picking Ibadan as the point for the zonal games, saying the city had history of pioneering many feats in the areas of sports, education and entertainment.

He informed his guests the Ministry was ready to support NMA with coverage of their activities during their stay and while traversing tourist sites in the State with its online radio and other media platforms for the week-long activities

Olatunbosun therefore sought the support of the association towards planning a free medical service programme for staffers of the Ministry.
